In breeding, the Papyrus Gonolek breeds in monogamous pairs and builds well-hidden nests within dense papyrus thickets. The nests are carefully made from vegetation and positioned in a strategic position to avoid predators. The female lays 2-3 eggs, which are incubated by both parents and then fed the chicks after hatching. The dense cover protects them, which ensures a higher survival rate of their young.

The lifespan of the Papyrus Gonolek in the wild is around 6 to 8 years. This could vary with predation, habitat quality, and environmental factors. In safe habitats that have stable ecosystems, they would likely reach the higher limit of their lifespan.
