This 6-Day Gorillas and Lake Mburo Safari takes you to track the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. It offers a chance to experience and learn about the Batwa people, who are the original inhabitants of the Bwindi Forest, and how they lived in this dense forest until conservation efforts led to their relocation. It also takes you to Uganda’s smallest yet stunningly beautiful savannah park for a boat cruise and game drive. This is the only park where you can enjoy a nature walk within the park and encounter wildlife up close.

A Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Airport Pickup and Transfer to the Hotel in Kampala.

Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your Arcadia Safaris driver-guide will be there to greet you and transfer you to the hotel in Kampala for a bed and breakfast overnight stay. This will be the perfect chance for you to unwind and relax after a long flight.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – 6 Day Gorillas and Lake Mburo Safari.

An Arcadia Safaris guide will pick you up in the early morning after your breakfast at 7:00 from your hotel and then head into an amazing adventurous journey to Bwindi NP, situated in Kabale District, in southwestern Uganda. This is approximately 539 kilometers by road from Kampala via Masaka. The drive, however, will grant you a very adventurous marvelous view of the western vast lands.

You will have a stopover at the equator for brief photography, which will provide future memories about the wonderfully scenic drive to western Uganda. Have an enroute lunch at Agip Motel in Mbarara for brief refreshment for the long journey. Later in the day, proceed with your adventurous drive to Bwindi and arrive at Rushaga in the evening for relaxation and dinner at the lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Community Visit: 6 Day Gorillas and Lake Mburo Safari.

After an early morning breakfast, pick-up by the guide to the park headquarters to meet your guide and game ranger of the day, who will take you through the park guidelines and precautions before you begin your gorilla trekking experience in the thick of the Bwindi forest. Trekking requires a little more effort since it takes some good time. You might also require carrying along with you some light food staff and drinking water. To keep you on track with the trekking experience since it usually takes between 1 hour to half of your day inside the thick forest depending on the gorilla family you are tracking. Upon reaching the gorillas, you are given an hour to watch these gentle primates as they carry on with their daily routine.

The time for scenic trekking will also provide an advantageous moment to view different tree species and other mammals such as butterflies, tree frogs, chameleons, and many more. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

On this evening, you will have a guided community walk to visit the Batwa tribe or forest habitats. This is one of the most scenic walks in Bwindi. This will provide an ideological understanding of the Batwa culture and social way of life. Then transfer back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and then Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park.

After breakfast, drive to Lake Bunyonyi for canoeing. This lake is dotted with 29 small islands, making it a unique and beautiful destination that you cannot miss while in South Western Uganda. Among the islands visited is the Punishment Island, where girls who got pregnant before marriage were dumped and starved to death, other notable islands include the upside-down islands, and many more.

After the canoe, you will have Lunch at Arcadia Lodge with beautiful views of the Lake and then head to Lake Mburo National Park. You will arrive at the Park in the evening for relaxation and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive and a Boat Ride at Lake Mburo – 6 Day Gorillas and Lake Mburo Safari.

After breakfast, you will take a game drive through the park in search of various animals like the Hyenas, Zebras, buffaloes, Impalas, Antelopes, Elands, and Giraffes among others as they return to their hideouts to hide from the scorching sunshine during the day. Return to the lodge for lunch, as you prepare for an evening boat cruise on Lake Mburo. 6 Day Gorillas and Lake Mburo Safari

Immediately after lunch drive to Lake Mburo in the heart of the Park for a boat trip. You will have a chance to see various water games such as Hippos, crocodiles, birds, and sitatunga antelopes inhabiting papyruses surrounding the Lake. Having a cup of tea while watching the Golden skies during the sunset over the Lake is one most magical moment on Safari in Uganda. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Nature Walk and Transfer back to Entebbe International Airport.

Wake up early in the morning and get ready for a nature walk that takes you face-to-face with the wild on foot. On this walk, you might catch sight of zebras grazing alongside long-horned cattle, and different birds may appear. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast after the walk. You will then check out and drive back to Kampala, marking the end of your safari. On the way, lunch at the Equator. You can take a packed lunch from the lodge or take a hot meal at local cafeterias. Try to get some souvenir crafts for your family and friends. This will be one of the best times to ruminate on your unforgettable safari in Uganda and start getting ideas for your next trip.
