A Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and Transfer to Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your Arcadia Safaris driver-guide will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax at the hotel or enjoy a gentle introduction to Uganda’s lively capital before beginning your gorilla trekking and wildlife safari the following day.

Kampala provides a comfortable starting point for your private Uganda safari, allowing you to recover from your flight before the scenic journey to southwestern Uganda. Your guide will brief you about the upcoming itinerary, including mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi, the Batwa cultural experience and wildlife activities in Lake Mburo National Park.

Day 2: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, depart Kampala at approximately 7:00 a.m. and travel towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. The scenic drive takes you through rural communities, rolling hills and beautiful countryside, with a stop at the Equator for photographs before continuing towards southwestern Uganda.

You will have a stopover at the equator for brief photography, which will provide future memories about the wonderfully scenic drive to western Uganda. Have an enroute lunch at in Mbarara or Kabale and also have a brief refreshment for the long journey. Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Cultural Experience in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers before beginning your mountain gorilla trekking adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, you will enter the dense rainforest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek can take several hours depending on the gorillas’ location and forest conditions, and you will spend up to one hour observing them once they are found.

Return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation before the planned Batwa cultural experience, subject to the timing and duration of your gorilla trek. During the community visit, learn about the Batwa people, their traditional forest-based way of life and their cultural heritage. This experience offers a valuable opportunity to understand the relationship between local communities and Bwindi’s conservation efforts.

Day 4: Canoe Ride on Lake Bunyonyi and Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, depart Bwindi and travel to the scenic shores of Lake Bunyonyi, a beautiful highland lake surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with numerous small islands. Enjoy a guided canoe excursion across the lake, taking in the peaceful scenery and learning about local communities and the stories associated with some of its islands. The canoe ride offers a relaxing contrast to your mountain gorilla trekking experience.

After lunch overlooking the lake, continue towards Lake Mburo National Park, travelling through the picturesque landscapes of southwestern Uganda. Arrive at your lodge later in the day, check in and relax in preparation for the wildlife game drive, boat safari and guided nature walk planned for the following day.

Day 5: Game Drive and Boat Safari in Lake Mburo National Park

Begin the day with a morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park, exploring its open savannah, acacia woodland and grasslands in search of Uganda’s wildlife. Depending on the conditions, you may encounter zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, giraffes and a variety of bird species. Your guide will help you identify wildlife and explain the park’s unique ecosystems before returning to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Mburo, an excellent opportunity to look for hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds along the shoreline and papyrus-fringed wetlands. The tranquil lake scenery and surrounding wildlife create memorable opportunities for photography and birdwatching. Day 6: Horseback Riding and Transfer to Entebbe International Airport

Begin your final morning with an exciting horseback riding experience in Lake Mburo National Park, offering a unique way to explore Uganda’s savannah landscapes and observe wildlife from a different perspective. Accompanied by experienced guides, ride through scenic grasslands and open plains where you may encounter zebras, impalas and other wildlife along the way. After this memorable activity, return to the lodge for breakfast and check out before beginning your journey back to Entebbe.

Travel through the beautiful countryside of western Uganda, stopping at the Equator for photographs, refreshments or souvenir shopping, depending on your schedule. Enjoy lunch en route before continuing to Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight. As the drive can be lengthy and traffic conditions may affect arrival time, we recommend booking a late-evening international flight or arranging an additional overnight stay if your departure is earlier. Please note that horseback riding is subject to availability, suitability and the applicable activity fees.
