Day 1: Airport Pickup and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Arcadia Safaris driver-guide, who will brief you about your upcoming Rwanda gorilla trekking adventure.

After the meet-and-greet, depart Kigali and begin the scenic drive northwest towards Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes approximately two to two and a half hours, passing through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, characterized by rolling hills, green farmland, and picturesque rural communities.

Upon arrival in the Musanze – Kinigi area, check in at your lodge and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a cultural experience with the local community. Learn about traditional Rwandan culture, customs, and ways of life through activities that may include traditional dance and music, local crafts, traditional medicine, and stories about the communities living around the Virunga Mountains.

After the cultural experience, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. The evening is at leisure, allowing you to relax and prepare for the following day’s unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Cultural Experience

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda safari—gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from the Rwanda Development Board ranger guides. You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family before beginning your trek into the lush forests of the Virunga Mountains.

The trek can take several hours depending on the location and movement of the gorilla family. As you make your way through the forest, enjoy the beautiful scenery and keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife and birdlife inhabiting the park. Once you locate your assigned gorilla family, you will spend up to one unforgettable hour observing these magnificent mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Watch as they feed, rest, groom, play, and interact with one another. This intimate encounter with one of the world’s most endangered great apes is an experience that will remain with you long after your safari.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some time to relax and refresh. In the afternoon, depending on your trekking schedule and available time, you may enjoy a further cultural experience in the local community, offering an opportunity to learn more about the traditions and daily life of the people living around Volcanoes National Park. Day 3: Transfer to Kigali International Airport

Depending on your flight schedule, there may be an opportunity for a brief stop in Kigali for refreshments or a short city experience before proceeding to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
