This 3 day best of Akagera National Park safari gives you a chance to explore Rwanda’s only Savannah National Park. The Park homes the African Big five games, the lion, Leopard, African Elephants, Rhinos, and the Buffalo. This park has got numerous small lakes making it a unique habitat for several water-dwelling animals like Nile Crocodiles and Hippos. It’s a habitant for over 400 bird species including permanent water birds like the shoebill stork. You have a chance to participate in Fishing at Lake Shakani, and your catch during the fishing activity is surely entitled to you.

A Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Airport Pickup and Transfer to Akagera National Park.

On arrival at Kigali International airport, you will be met by our guide-driver who will readily be available to pick you up courtesy of Arcadia Safaris and you will be welcomed to Rwanda “The land of a thousand hills” and you will be briefed about your 3 day best of Akagera Safari. You will then be driven to the East of the country, with a stopover at the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, where 250,000 victims of the genocide were laid to rest. This important memorial site was inaugurated to commemorate the dark past of Rwanda and how it shaped modern-day Rwanda.

From here, you will have your lunch in Kigali and then head out for a 2-hour drive to Akagera National Park in Eastern Rwanda, on the boundaries with Tanzania. You will arrive at the park in the evening, and you may opt to have an evening drive or relax at the lodge as you prepare for the following day.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and a Boat Ride on Lake Ihema – 3 Day Best of Akagera National Park.

After an early breakfast, you will meet your guide and start the game drive in the southern sector of the Park. Different animals can be spotted during this game drive, like the Maasai giraffes, Eastern Black Rhinos, Buffaloes, Elephants, Zebras, antelopes, waterbucks, and many more, different birds can also be spotted during this game. Drive back to your lodge for lunch as you prepare for a boat ride on Lake Ihema.

After lunch, you will drive to Lake Ihema for a boat ride. This is the largest Lake in the Park and the second largest in the country. It homes animals like Hippos, Nile Crocodiles, and many water birds including the rare shoebill stork.

After the boat cruise on Lake Ihema, you will drive to Lake Shakani for Sportfishing and a magical sunset view over the lake. Later, transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive in Kilala Plains and Transfer to Kigali.

Have an early breakfast, then check out from your lodge for a drive to the Northern Sector of the Park for an extended game drive in the Kilala Plains, a very extensive flat savannah with lots of animals. It is a favorite hunting ground for predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, the Chance of spotting them in vast plains is high, and after the game drive you will have a picnic lunch within the park before you exit the Park for Kigali city to end the safari. This marks the end of our  3 Day Best of Akagera National Park safari.
